Space Fiction at National Space Centre (Leicester, UK)

National-Space-Centre-logoThe National Space Centre will be celebrating the history, present and future of Science Fiction during February half-term with a jam-packed programme of special guests, fun activities and a special competition where you get to decide which is the ‘Best Science Fiction Book of All Time!’

Each day we will have science fiction authors (Brian Aldiss, Alastair Reynolds, Peter Hamilton, between others) presenting readings form their books and discussing the appeal of science fiction. To find out who is on when, check out our at-a-glance schedule.

From “The First Men in the Moon” to the “Hitch-hikers’ Guide To The Galaxy”, science fiction has transported, tantalised and terrified us with visions of technologically advanced futures and far-flung worlds.

In the era of Kindle, twitter and Audible, the way we enjoy science-fiction has changed, but the stories remain as compelling as ever. The National Space Centre is one of the United Kingdom‘s leading visitor attractions that is devoted to space science and astronomy. It is located in the city of Leicester, England, next to the River Soar on the A6. The Centre has on display the only known Soyuz spacecraft in Western Europe (in the United States, another Soyuz spacecraft is at the Smithsonian Institution as part of their Apollo-Soyuz Test Project display). The centre has six main galleries of exhibits and visitor activities covering space flight, astronomy and cosmology. The attraction also includes a Digistar 3 dome cinema and planetarium, a gift shop and a restaurant. The restaurant is situated beneath the two nozzles of the Blue Streak and PGM-17 Thor rockets.

The National Space Centre is an all-weather attraction for all the family, situated in the heart of the Midlands, located just two miles from Leicester city centre, UK
